DMLS - CoreX

Stainless-Steel (CoreX)

Corrosion Resistance, High Strength, Hardness

CoreX is a premium stainless tool steel that combines excellent corrosion resistance with high strength and hardness. Designed specifically for demanding industrial and molding applications, CoreX offers exceptional fatigue resistance, polishability, and machinability, making it an ideal material for precision tooling and inserts.

This material maintains outstanding mechanical performance under thermal and mechanical stress, making it suitable for plastic injection molds, rubber molding tools, and other high-performance tooling components. CoreX can be heat-treated through solution annealing and aging, allowing optimization of strength, toughness, and hardness for specific application needs.

Applications

  • Mold and Die Making:

Stainless steel CoreX is widely used for plastic injection molding, rubber molding, and tooling for corrosive plastics, where both corrosion resistance and hardness are crucial for long mold life and dimensional accuracy.

  • Automotive and Industrial Tooling:

Due to its combination of wear resistance and mechanical strength, it is an excellent choice for inserts, dies, and forming tools in the automotive and general manufacturing industries.

  • Aerospace and Engineering:

Its high fatigue strength and dimensional stability make it suitable for tooling, fixtures, and hot-work components in aerospace and precision engineering applications.

  • Energy and Defense:

CoreX is used in energy systems and defense tooling, where it withstands high stress, temperature variation, and corrosive working environments, ensuring consistent performance over time.

  • Medical and Healthcare:

Stainless steel CoreX’s corrosion resistance and biocompatibility make it a reliable choice for medical tooling, surgical mold inserts, and components exposed to sterilization cycles or chemical cleaning.

  • Marine and Offshore Applications:

Thanks to its superior resistance to moisture and chemical corrosion, CoreX is suitable for marine molds, underwater housings, and parts for offshore tooling systems, maintaining strength and durability in aggressive environments.

  • Additive Manufacturing Tooling:

CoreX is a preferred choice for conformal cooling inserts, hybrid molds, and rapid tooling made via metal additive manufacturing, where complex geometries and internal channels enhance productivity and tool life.
